the integrated online experience
We need access to information at different times and in different ways - when we’re on the move we might use a mobile and at home a desktop. It is this change in circumstances and needs that devices are getting better at dealing with.
Email was one of the first devices to bridge the boundary between the desktop and the mobile. I am using Exchange at work and so a windows mobile phone works “well” at integrating the experience on the move. I haven’t been much of a fan of gmail via the mobile as yet - it currently feels a bit clunky, so I usually wait to answer personal emails when I get home unless they come to my work address but this will improve over time. It amazes me that the iphone doesn’t support exchange. It is one of the major reasons I ruled out purchasing it.
RSS is the next technology to do this and the need for this cross platform integration is stopping me moving from Google Reader. The platform works really well on both the mobile and desktop platforms. It’s all very well talking about using new platforms like Particls or fav.or.it but if it cant provide a great experience across multiple platforms then it at least needs to sync with Google Reader (or other great mobile platforms). It is now the first question I ask when I look at other RSS reader. This all comes back to dataportability. We need the ability to sync data as well as move it.

branding gone mad
why is orange’s support email address 345@orange-ft.com. What’s wrong with 345@orange.com?
O2 cold calling?
Absolutely amazing. I just had O2 call me asking me what network I am currently on. Now I am already on O2 so it was with some amusement that I enlightened him. Even more amazing is this didn’t seem to phase him at all - he proceeded to want more information, my contract type and then further going on to request my personal information to update his system!
O2 really should know their own customers - you would think wouldn’t you?
Unless of course maybe it wasn’t O2? The gentleman in question claimed to be calling from their Belfast calling centre. I have no idea whether that was the truth or not ![]()
mobile phone companies rediscover phones?
must be the time of year or something - had another call from a mobile phone company - this time Carphone Warehouse - asking me how a meeting went with them (the meeting was almost 6 months ago!). Madness!
incidentally - i got a load of voicemails that had been sent over the past week (or so?) - explains o2’s call last week.. not happy!
o2 having problems?
I just had a call from O2 (UK mobile phone provider) asking how everything was and whether I have had any problems receiving text messages or phone calls and whether I was happy with my contract. Is this unusually good customer service from the a mobile provider or a hint at something else?
Interestingly I did have problems receiving texts when I was in Greece end of September/early October but put it down to international roaming issues. I wonder if there is anything to it..
