Orkut is google’s take on social networks like facebook, hi5, myspace etc (there are only several million more these days).
In any case, of the major players, I do not rate orkut that highly but those that love it do seem to use it constantly. I have constantly heard about how huge in South America, unfortunately those South Americans will be feeling some pain today as orkut has been down now for around 15 hours now, and counting!
There are rumours on the web it is an upgrade..
I hope so as it is in desperate need of one - however if what I saw prior to orkut going down was anything to go by, it doesn’t look like it. Immediately prior to the under construction page, the friends list was completely unavailable and there were huge number of orkut’s donut error pages flying around..
If it is an upgrade, Google sure need to make it smoother to the user and communicate better.

Xmas is a big time for viral marketing. With all those greeting emails flying around, a greater number of people than usual are happy to forward your wonderful piece of creative around sending xmas wishes. That good piece of creative can place a company’s brand in fron of a significant number of people.
The overall winner this year just by the sheer number of times I received it this xmas has to be OfficeMax with its “Elfyourself” game. All it does is place your photo on a dancing elf - simple but very effective
Absolutely hilarious!

continuing the xmas theme - I heard about this site a fair few times recently - NORAD, the US/Canadian aerospace defence guys have been keeping an eye on Santa’s whereabouts since 1958. Now you can track him too..

There’s a great story of how it happened here as well..

Back from last minute trip to dubai.. lots going on both here and elsewhere.
It all looks like its kicked off over at Techcrunch with Techcrunch UK being “put on hold”. Hopefully it will return as there is definitely a need for it. I know a few people that would like to see it come back as Techcrunch Europe..
Anyhow looks like everyone is over reacting a bit right now - hopefully the dust will settle and everyone can be friends again
